Jessica De Maria-15

 Atlanta-based composer Jessica De Maria is currently premiering her original musical (written with another Atlanta-based artist, Chase Peacock) The Pretty Pants Bandit in Roswell (north of Atlanta), at the Cultural Arts Center as you are reading this bio. As a bit of interesting information, Mr. Montague actually knows this particular composer! 


This will be the last Composer of the Week for the 2021-2020 school year. Since we are in the midst of ERBs all students have until April 20 (G Day) to listen and read.




She is a graduate of Oglethorpe University  (also here in Atlanta) and has written several musicals and songs (as a freelance composer).

    I like Make It Beautiful because at first it is dramatic and then when slowly gets to the end it gives us hope. - Indira

Terrence Blanchard-6

Terence Blanchard is an award-winning (six Grammys) composer from New Orleans and is having his opera performed in New York City by the Metropolitan Opera company! This is a very big deal. He is the first African-American to have an opera produced by "The Met" He also plays the trumpet. Clara Schumann-2

During her lifetime (1819-1896), Clara Schumann was known as a concert pianist--in fact, she was considered one of the greatest pianists of her day! As a child, she gave her first public performance at age eight, and at the age of eleven, she toured all over Europe. Since she performed the music of other composers, her own compositions were not often performed during her lifetime. Today, Schumann's  music is very well known, and now you know her music too!
